When you start to read enough books by a particular author, certain little things begin to stick out in their story … their personality, their personal life preferences and choices and even to some extent their own hopes and dreams and secret desires. Sometimes authors do it on purpose and sometimes, like I suspect is the case with this particulate author, they do it subconsciously. If you’ve read all of the books in the ‘Danvers’ series by Sydney Landon, you will no doubt pick up certain patterns of behavior. The men in her books all buy houses for their wives without first discussing it with them. It’s like surprise, this is our new home. There are those ever present issues with parents and the men in this series all “handle” the parents in a strong show of force.
There are a lot of little things like this throughout all of the stories that overlap or are the same for every male and/or female character in her books. Problem with that and with this series in general is that it basically means you are reading the same story over and over again with each book, only each time the story just changes the main characters name. This series lacks enough differentiation between the characters across all of the books in the series. With the glaring exception of Suzy – the one character in the entire series that is vastly different than the others and stands out in every book she appears in.
At the end of this book you find that the author will be continuing the Danvers series with a book due out next year about Declan’s sister and best friend. She will also be introducing a new series within this series about totally new, never heard of characters, still set in the Danvers workplace through some upcoming novellas the first one called Betting on You.
- Sweet story? Yes.
- Happy ending? Yes.
- Well written? Yes.
Story the same as the others in the series. Unfortunately yes. Still worth a read though if you like the other books in the series. Just don’t expect any major blow your mind differences. The book is what it is, still not that it’s a bad read. In fact I rather enjoyed it. It was a nice little distraction from the ho hum of every day.
