Working remotely is amazing. I’ve done it for years and couldn’t imagine doing anything else. But that being said, I also realize that working from home isn’t right for everyone. Working from home can be tricky! It can be demanding, distracting, and back-breaking.
It was not until COVID-19 that most working classes had to shift their businesses online or conduct business meetings through Google Meet or Zoom; the rest was complete chaos. However, people have learned that having a dedicated workspace, established boundaries and schedules, and reduced phone use can significantly enhance their focus.
The agony of completing the work on time while your mind wanders somewhere else, and suddenly, you are daydreaming until you abruptly snap out of it and realize the pile of tasks you must complete! It was a strenuous task, but we were all defeated, and millions continued to work from home.
Even before Covid-19, thousands of individuals worked from home, whole- or part-time. According to FlexJobs, 4.7 Million workers in the U.S. alone were working from home before the pandemic.
Those who work from home have habitually complained about losing focus during working hours or even staying committed to their work. They may be distracted by family members, pets, or other household tasks.

When I was working from home, these six tips to stay focused while working from home proved to be beneficial. I noticed that I could concentrate more, which completely changed my focus game!
A Dedicated Work Space:
The first step to staying focused while working from home is to find a space that can be your home office. This can be your bedroom or study room, but it should not be the living room or anywhere you feel your family members might barge in and disturb you.
Once you have found a space suitable for you to work on your laptop, you will need to ensure that your desk and chair are comfy. Your environment must be comfortable and quiet, as this encourages maximum productivity.
The more calm and composed your surroundings are, the more you will be able to focus.
Create a Schedule and Work Accordingly:
After you have found an appropriate space and set up your desk, the next step is to create a schedule for yourself by dividing the day into chunks of time where you can work on different tasks. You can set up alarms or timers for each job.
This gives you clarity about the tasks you need to perform. You try adhering to the schedule and work with all your potential to meet your targets.
Treat Yourself with Breaks:
Breaks are an essential part of staying productive and staying focused. They allow you to refresh your mind and recharge your energy level to keep going for a long time without feeling drained.
You could take mini breaks of 10 minutes after every hour or two half an hour holidays throughout your working hours. Exercise, relax or Netflix, and chill to release work pressure.
Stay Off your Phone and Social Media:
There are so many distractions that can pull you away from your work, one of them being your phone and social media. When not in a public space, feeling we have more freedom to do what we want is straightforward. Turn off all notifications on your phone or put away any devices that might distract you. This is one of the main things that people struggle with. You have to resist the temptation of social media and doom-scrolling if you want to stay on track and get the job done.
Say No to Procrastinating:
Try to complete a task on time without delay it. You might think I can squeeze in this work for tomorrow or maybe do it later at night, but that time never comes! The pending work keeps on piling up, and this only makes you feel tense and stressed.
Rather than procrastinating, when the work is given priority and is done on time, it boosts your ardor, and by the end of the day, when all your work is done, you feel relieved and at peace.
Abstain from Multitasking:
Multitasking is excellent when it comes to house chores or if your job requires it, but in general terms, it can be the reason behind your low focus span and distract you from your next motive.
Work according to your schedule, and do not overwork or multitask when not needed. It will only drain you, and you won’t be able to deliver your best work.
Schedule Regular Breaks:
This may sound counter-intuitive, but one of the best things you can do for your mental health is to step away every now and then. When you work in an environment, you are always doing little things like going to get coffee or even driving to and from work — these are things that take you away and sometimes you need that mental break to be the best you. So schedule regular breaks, just like if you worked in an office. If you are putting in 8 hours a day, then you should, at the very least, give yourself 30 minutes to 1 hour for lunch, as well as two ten or 15-minute breaks during the day.
Then, when it’s time to get back to work, you will have the mental fortitude to stay focused on getting the job done.

But I also know that a big part of that “luck” comes with my unique ability to focus on getting the job done.
Working from home is the dream for so many people, especially now that after COVID-19, people realize how much it can improve their lives. And I want to encourage everyone to try it if you can. But at the same time, don’t have unrealistic expectations. Working from home is hard, especially when you have a lot of other little things trying to distract you.
Still, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
