Not every book in a series can be great and this book is the stinker in the bunch.
Beth Denton is not someone I liked. She’s whiny, annoying, over the top annoying and I can’t even imagine what it might be like to know her in real life. I can say without a doubt she’s not someone I would be friends with.
She’s like one of those annoying old friends from high school on Facebook who is always posting depressing shit just to make you feel sorry for her and give her attention.
Author Stephen King once said something like, take your favorite character and then give her some flaws. It will make your darlings, truly memorable.
And while I get why he said that, this book is a perfect example of how that great advice could go oh so horribly wrong.
I wished I could name something positive about this book but I really can’t. It wasn’t by any means the worst book I’ve ever read, but it most definitely isn’t on my top 100.
Here are some of the themes of this book ….
- Insecurity
- Fat Shaming
- Cheating
- Eating Disorders
- Miscarriages
Trust me those are just some of the highlights of this “romance” novel. It really is a hot mess.
If you are a fan of the entire Danvers series you will want to read it just to learn what else is going on with the group but it won’t be easy to get through it. Beth is the worst.
