I have to admit I’m a sucker for a good Christmas themed romance. You get all your love and joy and warm fuzzies all rolled up into one.
A Christmas Date was a very short story, probably one of the shortest I’ve ever reviewed on this site, coming in at under 10,000 words. However short isn’t always bad. Sometimes you can find a real gem in those novellas and I thought for a moment there I had one. However the ending of this story really just flat out ruined it for me. As I’ve said before, I hate hate hate stories that go from I just met you to let’s run off and get married in one giant leap.
You know there is a reason why there is a 60% divorce rate in America and stories like that only serve to remind us of that fact. I’m all for a sweet love story or love at first site but this story doesn’t really even give us that. It’s just like meet, talk a few times (kind of) and bam – let’s get married. Seriously ruined the whole story for me.
Had there been any romance or heck even a single date I might have overlooked some of this foolishness, but the author didn’t even give us that. Instead it was more like, I want what my friend has, I want to be married and you are the closest chick so you’ll do.
I don’t know about you but when I read a romance novel, I want some romance. I want my characters to meet and fall in love, not meet and say hey let’s go get married … sure I don’t really know you and you don’t know me but what the hell, YOLO.
It was a major let down of an ending to what otherwise could have been a really good Christmas romance.
