Carolina Freixa (@carolinafreixa) has over 270,000 followers and more than 6.2 million likes on TikTok. But when she isn’t busy making fashion videos as a fashion tiktoker she works full time as a nanny.
Carolina Freixa got her start in the world of being a social media influencer on Instagram. She made her first post on August 5, 2015. But things were slow going for her and she was only ever able to gain 6,500 followers.
But things changed for Carolina Freixa in October of last year when she created her Tiktok account and posted her first video.
It only took Carolina Freixa a few months to go from full-time nanny to a bonafide TikTok influencer. Which she admits, is still just her side hustle, but it’s clearly something she enjoys. In March of 2020, she started recreating her favorite outfits that she found on Pinterest and then making TikTok videos about them.
The content appeared to have resonated with the TikTok user base and her follower count began to skyrocket. Her first video to get more than a million views was posted on March 7th. To date, the video was 1.3 million views and almost 101k likes.
Word started to spread and 23-year-old Carolina Freixa became an up and coming fashion tiktokers. It took her only a few months to amas 20,000 followers, and that’s when companies came knocking at her door, offering her free clothes in return for featuring them in her videos. Once she hit 75,000 followers she started charging those fashion companies for “sponsored content”.
She told Business Insider that one of her first brand sponsorships was in April of this year with Princess Polly, a popular fast-fashion brand on TikTok with over 68 million people using the brand’s hashtag. Freixa said at the time, she only had about 50,000 followers. On top of fashion brands sponsoring her content, she’s also tapped into music marketing on TikTok, where artists or marketers pay Freixa to use a certain song in a video.
“A lot of people will DM me on Instagram to use their songs,” she said. She charges a flat fee for music integration, but only uses the song if she actually likes it or thinks it fits with her video.
Nowadays Carolina Freixa has found success with Amazon’s new influencer program where creators like her can set up their own Amazon virtual storefront and earn a commission from all the sales made.
So just how much does she make? She told Business Insider in a recent interview that she makes about $200 for music integration and $400 to $600 per video for product or brand integration. For example, if she features a piece of clothes from a particular company that will pay her anywhere from $400 to $600 for that promotion, plus oftentimes they give her the clothes for free. This means that not only does she get cold hard cash for making the video, but she also gets a ton of free clothes.
Still, despite her success, she still only considered this her side hustle.
Carolina Freixa says that she has been contacted by a few managers looking to represent her, although she has not signed with any yet. She plans on attending graduate school next year for speech therapy and her side hustle as an influencer has helped her save up for that expense.
Carolina Freixa works full time as a nanny, one of which is a toddler. Between the hours of 8 am and 4 pm she focuses all of her attention on the children. However, when the toddler takes a nap she spends that hour going through her emails.
“While he naps for about an hour and a half, I’ll be thinking of TikTok ideas or responding to emails,” Freixa said. Usually, she receives about four emails per day from brands reaching out to her about TikTok collaborations, she said.
Once she gets home from her nanny job, she spends about an hour a day filming new content. She posts about 5 TikTok videos a week, and about 2 or 3 of those are sponsored in some way, either through product integration or the music – sometimes both.
So while for now, her new career as a TikTok influencer is a nice side hustle, she admits her main income is through her work as a nanny.
As her followers grow, however, she can expect a vast increase in income. A TikTok star with 1.5 million followers can easily get between $3,000 and $6,000 a video, compared to the $400 to $600 she’s getting now.
The average rate of sponsorship on TikTok is between $1,000 and $2,000 per 100,000 views. However, you negotiate the price upfront so the amount you earn is based on the past performance of your other videos. So if your previous videos get an average of 100,000 views, then you’ll be based on that rate. The advertiser is hoping that you’ll not only get the same amount as your previous videos but that they’ll get lucky and the video you make for them will go viral.
In the case of Carolina Freixa, her TikTok videos get about 100,000 to 150,000 views on average, however, she’s had more than a few hit the 1 to 2 million mark. One of her videos even hit 7.2 million views!
