Have you Heard of the Airplane Mode Cell Phone Hack?

Have you Heard of the Airplane Mode Cell Phone Hack?

Airplane mode disables your phone’s cellular radio, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth connection, basically all the wireless transmission functions. The purpose of airplane mode is to ensure your phone’s transmissions don’t interfere with vital equipment that helps the airplane operate safely.

When you activate airplane mode, your phone won’t automatically check your email or other common background features. In airplane mode, your phone even stops communicating with cell towers. This means it won’t ping the tower to update incoming text messages or even send new ones from your end.

You can activate airplane mode under “settings”. When airplane mode is enabled, you’ll often see an airplane icon in your device’s notification bar, which is usually in the top bar of your phone. I have an iPhone 10 max. In my case, the airplane mode notification is at the top right, just to the left of the charge bar.

So the hack in question is that if you turn on airplane mode while charging your phone, it will help your phone charge faster.

Have you Heard of the Airplane Mode Cell Phone Hack?

Is it true? It actually is. This cell phone hack is legit! The reason behind this is simple … because your phone isn’t busy doing all the normal functions like checking your emails or updating any incoming text messages, or checking for software updates, your phone will charge faster.

I did some tests with my iPhone 10, which had a 20% battery life. It took about three and a half hours to charge my phone. The next time my phone was down to 20% battery life, I turned on airplane mode and charged it again. This time, it charged in about 3 hours, saving me almost half an hour.

Sure, it was not a huge saving of time, but it wasn’t bad, and it did confirm that the phone charged faster in airplane mode, so we can consider this hack fact-checked.

However, it’s important to remember that using airplane mode comes with some trade-offs. As mentioned earlier, when your phone is in airplane mode, it will not be able to receive or send texts, calls, or push notifications. It won’t connect to Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, and it won’t check your emails or update apps. Essentially, your phone will be off the grid while it’s charging. This might not be a problem if you’re charging your phone overnight or if you don’t need to use it for a while. But if you’re expecting an important call or text, or if you need to use the internet or a Bluetooth device, you’ll need to take your phone out of airplane mode.

Another important factor to consider is that the time saved while charging in airplane mode might not be substantial for everyone. In my test, I only saved about half an hour when charging my iPhone 10 from 20% to full. This time-saving might be less for phones with smaller batteries or faster charging speeds. However, if you’re in a rush and every minute counts, charging in airplane mode could be beneficial.

Also, keep in mind that using airplane mode to speed up charging isn’t the only way to charge your phone faster. There are other tricks you can try, such as using a higher-wattage charger (if your phone supports it), charging from a wall outlet instead of a computer USB port, or removing your phone’s case while charging to prevent overheating, which can slow down the charging process.

The hack of charging your phone in airplane mode is legit and can indeed make your phone charge faster. It’s not a huge time-saver, but it can shave off a few minutes from your charging time. However, it’s not without its trade-offs, and it might not be the best option for everyone. If you’re not expecting any important communications and you need to charge your phone as fast as possible, give this hack a try. But if you need to stay connected, it might be better to look into other options for speeding up your phone’s charging process.
