Duchess by Deception

Review of Duchess by Deception

Duchess by Deception is a historical romance novel by Marie Force. This is her first-ever release in this genre and is the first book in the Gilded romance series.

Duchess by Deception

Derek Eagan, the dashing Duke of Westwood, is well aware of his looming deadline. But weary of tiresome debutantes, he seeks a respite at his country home in Essex—and encounters a man digging on his property. Except he’s not a man. He’s a very lovely woman. Who suddenly faints at his feet.

Catherine McCabe’s disdain for the aristocracy has already led her to flee an arranged marriage with a boorish Viscount. The last thing she wants is to be waylaid in a Duke’s home. Yet, she is compelled to stay by the handsome, thoughtful man who introduces himself as the Duke’s estate manager.

Derek realizes two things immediately: he is captivated by her delicate beauty, and to figure out what she was up to, Catherine must not know he is the Duke. But as they fall passionately in love, Derek’s lie spins out of control. Will their bond survive his deception, not to mention the scorned Viscount’s pursuit? Most important, can Catherine fall in love all over again—this time with the Duke?

  • Genre: Historical Romance
  • Length: 320 Pages
  • Released: January 29, 2019
  • Rating: 9.4/10

I’ve been a fan of Marie Force for a while now so when I heard she just released her first Historical Romance I had to read it.

The book was very formulaic.

  • Good girl falls for a bad boy (check)
  • Bad boy magically reforms when he meets the love of his life (check)
  • Good girl (virgin) in need of saving by bad the boy (check)

Still, even though it follows a very obvious and common formula, it still turned out to be a great read and I loved every minute of it. It’s one of those books that you read to escape reality. To escape into a well-written fantasy world, just for a little while.

Historical Romance isn’t typically my cup of tea, but I’m glad I took a chance with Duchess by Deception. Marie Force is an incredible writer and she did an amazing job with this one.
